Starting year 11, I struggled to understand much of what was taught in physics which led to my lack of motivation to learn. I decided to search for a tutoring centre so, like a typical HSC student, I tried out a popular, expensive tutoring college. I found that it was a repeat of school; one teacher speaking to the students as if they were a single entity which didn’t assure the development of each individual student, particularly one who was struggling like me. I heard about Hero Education from a friend and decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find the theory booklets were extremely useful and comprehensible which were complimented well by the lessons. Hero gave me confidence. Confidence to tackle any physics question, confidence to walk into the examination room, confidence to perform. I changed from a band 4 student who was struggling, ready to drop the whole subject, to someone who has a real passion for physics and ended up getting band 6 in the HSC. Marks, however, are not the end of the story. The tutor-student interaction not only allowed me to develop academically, it also provided me with a life mentor, who gave me advice and support in and outside the classroom, as well as a network of fellow students who would go on to become my good friends.
